I'm using Gentoo1.1a on my Sony Vaio PCG-FX390P laptop and it works great. I like the minimal install and the amount of control over the configuration. Because Gentoo is source code based, you will have to download and compile most every piece of software, unless you go with one of the pre-builds. You will have to compile a kernel to complete the install. I preferred compiling everything myself, because it gave me a much better idea what was going on with my machine. The install doc is excellent. As I mentioned to Tim Fournet the other day in #brlug, its kinda like a quick and dirty Linux From Scratch. Be warned that it is a very new Linux distribution and they are fixing bugs and security holes and releasing updates fairly often right now. But I think it is a very interesting distribution that is worth checking out. Good luck, and let me know if you have any other questions!
