the only problem i could see would be if you wrote over the mandrake
partition... ive never seen a distribution detect anything other than
plain linux (as opposed to the flavor of linux) during an install...in
fact, just a few days ago, i was installing redhat over mandrake, and
redhat just said that linux was installed.

as far as booting multiple linuxes... lilo and grub arent picky... i was
moving partitions around the other day... i did a dd to copy hda1 to
hda3, then installed lilo to a floppy and rewrote /etc/fstab... and i
dont have a single problem (i was installing windows [for games only =p]
and wanted it on /dev/hda1).  if you want any help on specifics of
getting two linuxes, although i wouldnt know why you would want two
linuxes (overkill, one's enough ;) ), just post for info.   the boot
process of linux isnt particular at all, just tell it where the kernel
and root partitions are, and it will do the rest...
