I agree with your logic and, IMHO you have found an easy and workable
distro in Xandros. You might solicit opinions from some of the folks that
were in attendance last evening as I am somewhat biased. I understand that
Larry and Terry have already made the plunge and John H. said that he was
going to.

As another footnote, I just upgraded this machine from an Intel PIII
Coppermine 700 MHZ to a new Asus A7V333 mobo, AMD Athlon XP 2100, new case,
ATI Radion 7500 AGP card and 512 Meg P2700 ram. I transferred the hard
drives, floppy drive, DVD drive, CD burner, network card, Soundblaster Live
Platinum and ATI TV Wonder VE TV card from the old box to the new box. The
old box was dual booting Xandros Desktop and Win98SE. With great reluctance
I connected all the peripherals and pushed the power button. The BIOS auto
detected all the IDE devices and up came LILO. I selected Xandros and the
boot process started. As I watched the boot messages, Xandros told me that
the video configuration had changed and a new configuration file was being
written. Next I was presented with the log-in screen with my name looking
me in the face. I entered my password and was immediately presented with my
KDE desktop, the only difference from when I had shut the old machine down
a few hours earlier was that the screen resolution was at 1024 X 768 (the
Xandros default) rather than 1280 X 1024 as before. I right clicked on the
desktop and reset the resolution and the box has been running ever since.
No reboots, no searching for driver discs, no trying to figure out which
new piece of hardware Window$ is wanting a driver for, nothing but a rock
solid, totally stable, high performance system. I have yet to even try a
boot into Window$ because I know that just to get the TV card working under
Window$ required a minumum of 8 reboots and the careful feeding of each
driver to get it all installed just right. As I am writing this in Eurora,
running happily under CodeWeavers Wine on my right screen, I am watching
the local news on the left screen and Xandros found the TV card from the
get-go. I guess I will dedicate Saturday to getting Window$ working again
as I must do that in order to finish my tax return with spyware infested,
activation requiring TurboTax (I didn't know and will not purchase it ever
again!).

Keep up informed as you move forward,

Ed Richards
