I just caught this part. I wonder, when you get to this section while
mandrake is booting, which option do you choose???

"linux" would be the choice you want.
do you get past this point?

Mandrake doesn't actually start loading until you hit enter on "linux"

If you don't know your Mandrake password there is a method to change
the password. I would have to research it, or perhaps someone else
knows off the top of their head, I don't remember how to get to
single user mode using lilo.

You can search for "single user mode lilo " on google and find lots
of answers.

As far as booting off a floppy you can make a floppy disk that will
load the cdrom drivers and run your install from there.

Do you know how? Most distros include the tools to do this.
Put the mandrake cd in your windows machine, a dir called "dosutils"
has the exe for creating boot disk and the dir "images" has the
files you will need to use.

to get the install program to use the cdrom make a floppy boot disk
using the "rawwritewin.exe" program use the file in the
"images" dir called "cdrom.img" alternatively you could use
"network.img" to install your distro from a ftp, http or
other network location.

Does this help?
