i've not used it this way but I just skimmed the man page
and it appears to support just this sort of usage.  Apparently
you start up centericq  and then you can send messages via command
line like so
$ echo "hi" | centericq -s msg -p icq -t 17502151

I run centericq in a "screen" session so it's always on.=20=20
That's how I would recomend doing it so you could support this.
