We did some benchmarking here at LIGO for the new beowulf.  We did not 
do any benchmarking specifically for crypto, but I can tell you that the 
AMD with the NForce chipset outperformed the Intel in things like fast 
fourier transforms, etc.  However, Intel ended up winning because of 
political reasons and also the option of moving to the intel compilers 
to further optimize our code in the long run.  Intel compilers Vs. GCC 
would negate nearly any gains/losses between the different platforms.

Also, with the P4 the hyperthreading may give a slight advantage to 
Intel.  We did testing before the HT was available.
