Cleave:

If you would like to use a utility for USE flags try an application calle=
d
"ufed". This application is usefull not only because it describes the
flags at the console but also creates flags that you would not normally
think about. For instance, if I were to build samba and did not want
support for LDAP, I would think that by not adding the LDAP flag would be
sufficient. However, that is not the case. I would have to add an -LDAP
flag otherwise I would run into a great deal of trouble authenticating
samba users in the regular fashion. The first time I tried I could not ge=
t
samba to authenticate the first time I used Gentoo. I think I got some
errors in the logs about no LDAP server and that was my hint look into th=
e
makefiles.

Anyway, the gentoo manual clearly states that you should use the flags
just as described, however, there quite a bit of them and this utility is
quite handy to look up spelling, availability, description, etc.

Good luck in you Gentoo Journey, ever since John Hebert recommendation I
have not used anything else. I run it on one Mac and two PCs
