Does ssh have to be installed on the server/client/or both? How would I
connect to the server? Would I have to use a dynamic dns service? What
would the commands look like to do it? Would it be like ssh
C:/sourcedirectory/filename name/dynu:C:/desitnationdirectory (if using
Windows)?
?
Here's the crash course:
1. Install openssh on your home server. Make sure you tell it to run sshd
when you install. You didn't
mention which distro you are running at home, so the installation details
will be left up to you.
2. On your Windoze box: download
http://the.earth.li/~sgtatham/putty/latest/x86/pscp.exe (you prolly
wanna download the other neat tools there as well like Will mentioned)
3. Windoze box: do 'pscp C:/sourcedirectory/filename
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/dir/path/
to/file/destination/'
3.1. type in password for [EMAIL PROTECTED]
3.2. filename gets automagically copied via an encrypted tunnel to
yourlinuxserver.com:/dir/path/to/file/
destination/
4. If you wanna run an ssh server on your Windoze box, I recommend you
install Cygwin (http://
www.cygwin.com) and read this:

?
You can do other stuff, like making a secure telnet session to your home
Linux box using an ssh client
(installed with openssh or putty for Windoze) . What's really cool is to
play around with ssh port
forwarding: my wife wants to get to her computer at home from work using
VNC. All she has to do is
install VNC server on her computer at home, and run this on her computer at
work: 'plink -R
5900:192.168.x.x:5900 [EMAIL PROTECTED]'. This will start an ssh
session to
ourhomefirewall.org and direct port 5900 on her work machine to port 5900 on
her home machine
(192.168.x.x) behind our firewall.
?
There are many other interesting uses for ssh and port forwarding. Just read
the docs or google around.
It's a nifty tool.

Sorry if it is a lot of questions, but it is something that I need to
know.
