As Scott said, its another open source MTA. It is developed and
maintained by Wietse Venema thanks to initial development funding by
IBM. Not only is it very secure, it's very easy to deploy. Under linux,
once postfix is installed, you only need to change 5 variables in 1 file
and launch it.
At my previous job I made a postfix mail gateway that was configured as
follows:
Internet --> postfix (reject bad attachments) --> SpamAssassin -->
Anomy mail sanatizer --> postfix --> exchange server (based on
|--> unix server recipient address)
This config prevented us from ever getting an email virus and cut our
spam by a large percentage. And it only took me about a day to setup.
Here at TFN, I have postfix, ldap, auth-smtp, TLS, and courier-imap all
working nicely together. I still haven't gotten mail aliases in ldap to work
but /etc/aliases works fine for now.
