SEATTLE (Reuters) - Prosecutors in Seattle said on Friday that they had arrested a juvenile for releasing a variant of the Blaster worm that devastated computers worldwide and targeted Microsoft Corp.'s MSFT.O computers.
The arrest of the juvenile, whose identity was sealed from the public, was for "intentionally causing damage and attempting to cause damage to protected computers," a federal offense, said John McKay, United States Attorney for the Western District of Washington. "Computer hackers need to understand that they will be pursued and held accountable for malicious activity, whether they be adults or juveniles," McKay said in a prepared statement. Details of the investigation were also sealed. http://reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=internetNews&storyID=3516652 My comments: A juvenile. A child broke half the Microsoft [EMAIL PROTECTED] on the planet. Of course, we knew it would be a juvenile, but my sweet Lord, why don't people wake up? Back in the day when I was in highschool, if a boy took a gun to school it was because he was hunting up until the last minute, or going hunting right after the last bell. These days are different. I realize that. These should not be days when a bored child can cripple banks and businesses. This is moronic! How shoddy does software have to be before people stop using it? If you were driving down the road and your wheels fell off you would be upset. Am I right? If you looked around and noticed alot of cars were sitting on their axles while the drivers were wading through the weeds looking for tires, you might be slightly molified. However, if you noticed a lot of cars swerving around you and cursing you for buying the piece of [EMAIL PROTECTED] that is littering the highways and byways, wouldn't you, at some point, wonder how you might buy a car that can get to the grocery store without falling the F apart? Granted there are a lot of slack-jawed morons out there. I am not being elitest. The average IQ is about the same as the temperature of July/August tap water in southern Louisiana. Most of the people in that range are perfectly fine people, and many are friends of mine. Most of them could care less about computers. The speed bumps on the information highway consider themselves to be a cut above the rest. They have a Lexus, a nice yard, a good credit rating, and a retirement plan. If they went to the doctor to get a hangnail fixed and left the office shy a foot they would get a lawyer and sue somebody black and blue. Why then do they let Microsoft lead them aroung by their wedding tackle? Where is all the "computers are so complicated" nonsense coming from? There was a time, five or ten years ago, when you might have to actually read something to replace some RAM, or a hard drive. The instructions are now easier than ordering at Burger King now for Pete's sake. At Burger King (trademark) they have a sign by the drive through that says "Picture menus are available for our patrons that cannot read." Now that is stupid. The 120 GB hard drive from China comes with a sheet of pictures that shows you what to do, and it is written in twelve languages. No one reads the print. A five year-old can understand the pictures. I received ten emails last week with a signature tag that said simply "If you insist on using Microsoft Outllok, please remove my name and email address from you contacts list." While I concur with their sentiment, why didn't they offer a solution? Lord. I need to stop reading the news in the morning. A good cup of Community Coffee (Trademark) and nice foggy Saturday moring should never be mixed with the news that someone too young to be named in the news crashed half the M$ [EMAIL PROTECTED] on the planet. I cannot believe this race survied the plauges, WWI, and WWII, only to be brought to its knees by a child because one frigging company cannot perform the job they were hired to do. God save us all. Many thanks to every blessed soul that contributed to open source in any fashion what so ever. ===== Warmest Regards, Doug Riddle http://www.dougriddle.com http://fossile-project.sourceforge.net/ http://www.libranet.com -- "Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the Peoples' Liberty Teeth." - George Washington -- __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
