X-Mailer: Ximian Evolution 1.4.4 The "LSU's Linux Proposal" presentation will detail a proposal that OCS brought to the Louisiana Technology Innovations Fund, and which was subsequently approved. The proposal asked for resources to purchase a z/800 mainframe, and other associated hardware and software, which will run linux only. This linux environment will be available for all Louisiana state agencies so that they can evaluate linux as a whole, as well as specific applications that run on linux. The majority of state agencies currently have very little linux penetration, so this will allow them to try linux out in a risk free environment. In addtion to testing and evaluation, we will be hosting typical linux applications, such as Apache, Samba, etc., for agencies with little IT resources. This project will build on OCS's experience with mainframe linux, as we have just completed a three year project with IBM to evaluate the platform in our computing environment. If anyone has any questions or suggestions, you can direct them to Al Delaney ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) or to me. On Thu, 2003-10-09 at 10:23, Dennis B.
