I can only guess that Sharp decided that the SL-C860, wouldn't sell well
in the U.S. but the SL-6000 would.
Too bad......I like the mini-laptop thing myself....bet its MUCH easier
to type on like a normal keyboard.
What I really want is an mp3/ogg player that takes a memory chip like my
digital camera does.....it would be
so easy to plug it into my card reader and upload the songs.....and to
have a different chip for whatever mood
I was looking for, etc.
Thanks for the input Karthik........

I have to disagree with that Karthik. While it is fragile, it works and I
know it will keep working.

I've been using my 5500 on an exercise stand bike and I'm happy with it. The
battery lasts more than an hour playing music if you black the screen and the
only thing you have to worry about is keeping it dry. A ziplock bag goes a
long way to making it water proof. You could use bubble wrap if you want to
give it some protection against being dropped. The average CF card will carry
more music than you have battery or legs for. A simple script works for
playing songs at random, so it's like you have your own little DJ. Oh yeah,
its also nice to have ogg, which pack more quality music into less space than
mp3 and is easier to make. Easy to make, transfer and play music in a small
packgage is the goal, right?

I plan to use it everywhere. I've used it in my van, which has a simple front
jack for plugging in. I start the random play script, chuck it in the glove
compartment and forget aobut it. I'm looking for a 6.2 watt 12 to 5V power
adaptor to solve the battery problem for long distance drives. I'm going to
have to dig around the back of the stereo in my car to get the same result.
For the longer bike rides I don't make any more, I'm planning a battery pack
and box to hold it all. Chances are, a Nestle Quick box will do just fine, but
fabric might be nice. Yeah, I need a bigger CF module or two.

There may be DRM issues to consider. I've heard that you have to use a goofey
client for the RioSport now, but that was from a Windoze user with little time
or inclination to figure the thing out. Someone correct me if he's wrong, but
Zaurus is free of DRM nonsense.

Zaurus is also not that much more expensive than "real" players if you already
have CF or MM. Rio players start at $100 or so. The kind that has MM
expansion cost $200, just like a Zaurus 5500. My cameras take CF, so I'm
wanting more CF anyway.
