Aside from the basic network delay, there are two things that affect DNS speed - have fast can it supply an answer to a cached query, and how fast can it resolve an uncached query. Resolving a cached query tells you how fast the DNS server is, while resolving an uncached query tells you very little about the DNS server that your using because the answer depends on the DNS servers upstream. I run uptime checks on several local servers at work (recording the resolve time for a name every 10 minutes) - I'll post the results. Edmund Cramp
