I agree with James, must be an oversight, especially
if it wasn't announced.

I haven't played with proxy servers much but check out
squid.

There are lots of ways around this using ssh. What
about running sshd on port 80 on a specific Sun box?
Guess that means you would have to keep a session
going all the time. Do you know anyone with a machine
on the ULL backbone that could serve as a gateway
using sshd on port 80?

You could also try using ssh remote port forwarding,
but again, that would require a running session. It's
been too long since I've been in the Solarium. Do they
let you run stuff like sshd in the background?
