What is it? Feather Linux is a Linux distribution which runs completely off a CD or a USB pendrive and takes up under 64Mb of space. It is a Knoppix remaster (based on Debian), and tries to include software which most people would use every day on their desktop. http://featherlinux.berlios.de/
I have it running on my old Compaq Presario 1825 laptop. It is really sweet! Runs fluxbox as window manager so it runs REALLY fast on old hardware. It has some nice premade scripts for installing The Gimp, Firefox, Thunderbird, Opera, OO, Synaptic, etc. It also has a hard disk install routine from the desktop. I haven't tried that yet so can't comment. It looks like a really good newbie distro, especially for older hardware, except that it does an auto log-in and I assume as root, but it doesn't automount any of the drives. For those not familiar with fluxbox, right click on the desktop to access the kicker menus.
