Hello Everyone:

Here is a project for anyone that would be interested. There are aspects
of this project I am not qualified to do so I am passing it on to
someone who would be interested. Two main things to consider:

1. Should be able to create simple photoshop like features. I would
probably look in to the GIMP perl modules first if I were to do this and
had no idea how to do it, which I do not.
2. Slide show and similar tools to display the pictures.
3. The Hardware is non negotiable in terms of printers. It is expected
from the program to supply a driver weather from a third party or home
brewed.

The rest seems straight forward, at least at first glance. I am
attaching the original description of the project and the contact info.

Good luck

========================

My name is Robert McCall and I am an entrepeneur and a photographer
originally from Lake Charles and currently living in Denver. I am
developing a kiosk that will require a couple of integrated programs,
specifically a customer oriented image viewing/editing/ordering
application linked to a point of sale application. I would like to run
this on a Linux operating system for a number of reasons and I need to
find a developer in SWLA who would be interested in taking this project
on. Perhaps a grad student looking for an interesting Summer project
that could be a nice resume booster.
Any ideas on enthusiastic talent? I will be visiting Lake Charles in
Mid-April and would like to interview prospectives.

Let me tell you a little about the goal of this system and the hardware
involved. I am hoping to develop a system that will allow a photographer
to shoot an event such as an evening at a nightclub or a dance in a
formal and informal style and to provide a kiosk that will display
images to customers in attendence and take orders that can be fulfilled
after the event or on site within minutes using a high end ink-jet photo
printer. I want the kiosk to be manned by an associate, but for the
interface to be customer friendly enough to be self-service. The
hardware platform will be very low profile and slick involving a dj
coffin and two ShuttleX mini barebones PCs to drive the printer on two
lcd monitors, one for the operator and one for the customer.
As far as the software is concerned, I want it to be based on a Linux OS
so that it will be difficult for operators to load extraneous
programming or to download and use the system that I develop. I also
want to avoid any unnecessary software licensing fees. If you would like
to see a working model of what I am trying to accomplish, go to a
Walmart and take a look at the Fuji Aladdin Digital Print Center (ADPC)
kiosk that displays customers images in thumbnail and full screen views,
allows for limited editing, and specific order placement in various
quantities and sizes. In my system, this ordering system will send the
ordered temp images to a que that will be triggered by the POS system,
so that if prints on site are ordered, then the order will be sent to
the printer at the moment of the exchange of currency.
I have examples of many versions of programs that do some of what I am
trying to do, but my application is different, more specific, and often
much less involved than the models that I have. I have the Fuji ADPC
software in my possession from my day job, ACDSee, ACD Foto Canvas Lite,
and of course Photoshop, and many other applications.
I have a very specific workflow in mind and a good idea of what I do and
don't want to integrate.
