Because of the Amazon remark I think you might be thinking of selling. There is 
an
application called OSCommerce that has hundreds of addons that might fulfill 
almost
any requirement.

For content only there are some applications like PHPNuke or POSTNuke that yoy
might want to check out.

Having said that, you mentioned server technology so I am not quite sure what 
you mean by
that. Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP is a popular combination of technologies required. 
However, 
by having them does not mean that you could start Amazon today, you would need 
the software
obviously. The software I have mentinoed above uses these technologies.
