Thanks Alvaro!
I'm _not_ thinking of selling anything, I just thought amazon would be a good
example of what I was going for. I would have said freshmeat, but the public
would not be adding anything, just me.

I'll check out oscommerce anyway, as well as postnuke and phpnuke - I don't
know anything about them.

I've already got the LA part of a LAMP going strong. I guess by "server
technology" I meant apache add-ons like php and mysql. I think I called it
that because that's what dreamweaver calls php and mysql. I just meant
software technology, not hardware technology.

Thanks,
Michael

Subject: Re: [brlug-general] 2 server technology questions

Hi Michael:
Because of the Amazon remark I think you might be thinking of selling. There is
an
application called OSCommerce that has hundreds of addons that might fulfill
almost
any requirement.

For content only there are some applications like PHPNuke or POSTNuke that yoy
might want to check out.

Having said that, you mentioned server technology so I am not quite sure what
you mean by
that. Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP is a popular combination of technologies required.
However,
by having them does not mean that you could start Amazon today, you would need
the software
obviously. The software I have mentinoed above uses these technologies.

I hope that helps,

Alvaro Zuniga
