Just to let you folks know, I have been using slackware 10 on two boxen and I love it so far. More stable/reliable than Redhat and so far, it has all the bells and whistles that I could want. I am surprised that a "stable" linux distro aimed at servers and stability more than new features also supports some of the new hardware I am using. I just put together a AMD 64 box which has some really fancy sound card stuff, GigE, etc. and it all works straight off of the install with no extra modules provided by me. This mobo is really new, so I am happy it works without a hitch. The last time I tried a piece of hardware this new with redhat, I ditched it and made the new hardware into a windoze box. Hell, the surround sound even works - now I just need to get 4 speakers + sub for Linux!
Why did I ever leave slackware for Redhat!!!??? Slack was the first distro that I ever ran. In '95 or so it was "the best" and I am starting to think it may still be "the best." Of course, it all depends on what your idea of the best is... The install is not as easy as Redhat/Suse/etc., but it is easier than gentoo or debian. I think I am going to roll out slack to replace my redhat servers. Shannon
