You can turn off that update thing. Usually, its just telling you there is a newer version out.
Things I don't like about fedora core 2: You can set up an extra monitor, but you have to hand edit the x config file to get it oriented properly, then cross your fingers to see if it works. the prism54 wireless driver did not work on a fresh install. I had to tweak it. It won't mount our iPod for some reason. I just rebooted from running knoppix, in which everything worked just fine. Anyone successfully compile a kernel under fedora core 2? I have no idea why I keep getting all those crazy kernel panics. Eats battery fast.
