Time involved messing around with the external
enclosure screws, for one thing. And what about
wanting to  copy data off of drives that are still
mounted in a PC case to another computer?

I see this gadget as a boon to corporate espionage. ;)

That's a joke, BTW.

Besides, I assume the price will come down when China
starts producing cheap knockoffs. The device is really
just a powered 40 pin IDE to USB/FireWire adapter;
nothing magical. The external enclosures are nice, but
they are not ideal for dealing quickly with a pile of
hard drives.
