"<Bill Gates> said that Windows does compete with Linux, but the shift of Unix share to Linux has been dramatic. He predicted that Linux will kill a lot of the Unix stuff that's been out there down to very small numbers and eventually Windows and Linux will dominate market share."
This sounds right on the money to me - for a large number of people (especially those "admins" of small companies who admin in their spare time) the main advantage of Windows over other operating systems at the server level is that there's a nice clicky pointy GUI. In my case, I run FreeBSD/SAMBA for the main office file system but I have a Windows based mail server/anti virus/spam filter ... simply because it's easy to set up and admin compared to the alternatives. -- Once, during Prohibition, I was forced to live for days on nothing but food and water.
