All you need to start giving MythTV a whirl is a $20 bttv-based card such as
the Hauppage WinTV Go.  It works fine under Linux.  I am still working
through some issues with it, but I am not sure whether they are related to
my 2.6.8 kernel or my SMP setup or my Promise IDE Raid card...  It seems
like the sound stutters a bit while trying to record and watch at the same
time, but tvtime works great...

That's not a bad topic, but I lack TV out.  I did a video SIG a few months

using xine, xawtv, tvtime, noatum and some others.  Recently, I read an 
article about how to watch DVDs using mepis and a non-us package, but I
don't 
have a DVD reader.  I'll look into Myth some more.
