While LSU is using a commercial product BrightMail or similar, I am
using SpamAssassin with 1 RBL, Mimedefang, and Protector with good
result. Coupled with the filters built in to the Thunderbird/Mozilla
apps, my users are only seeing 1 or 2 spams a day. Other wise it would
be hundreds of spams a day per user without the SpamAssassin filters.

I would be interested in knowing which Real Time Black Holes our members
are using.

I have considered using Clamav, as it has a mature stable antivirus
utility, but the blocking action of protector and Minedefang has worked
very for us. As my shop is nearly 98% Linux and 100% Mozilla/Firefox,
many of the Windows problems have not had such invasive outcome. The
issue of spam will continue to be a problem. Using Linux/Unix/OSX over
Windows is the number one best method to prevent spyware, virus. Using
Mozilla/Thunderbird/Opra on any platform has prevented activeX apps,
popups, and spyware.
