Andrew, It was an odd request, at first glance, at least. The system was a gift, and one IDE port was clearly bad. Have been trying to get it up to function before clearing disk space to install Linux to dual boot. Don't want to confuse hardware problems with my limited experience with installing Linux.
A year or so ago, I spent a weekend trying to partition the HD on another machine and install Linux, only to find my obstacle was a bad memory stick. So I try to deal with one obstacle at a time. Thanks for the lead. Looks like a good board at a fair price.
