Notepad under WINE?  :)

Well, in all seriousness, I did a quick check on the Ubuntu repositories
for "text editor" and here's some of the promising-sounding packages that
I've found:

axe
gnotepad+
gpe-edit
gtkedit
leafpad
mped
tea

Please note that this may not be all of them, but I did try to keep with
GUI-based editors.  I haven't tried any of these either.
