Leafpad is exactly what I was looking for. It feels like I'm running
Notepad with WINE, but with optional line numbers.

on this old 600MHz PC at work, gedit takes 5 seconds to start, leafpad
is ~1.5. Gedit's nice for code editing and things like that, but for
just the little simple thing here or there, leafpad it is.

Now how do I make it my default editor?
