My experience is you get raped buying local.  The going rate is $35
for a 500' spool of cat5e online.  Or $65 for 1000'.  Check
froogle.google.com.

Be sure to get wire that doesn't have the pairs "bonded" as it becomes
a real PITA to make terminations when you have to separate conductors.
 Also, if you are going to be punching it down in an attic, make sure
you get wire that does not have transparent insulation on any of the
pairs, in a dark attic making terminations, you are guaranteed to get
some pairs swapped if you have that style of wire.  As mentioned
already, you'll probably want to purchase a 110 punchdown tool.
