Does this have to be open source or can it be windows software (= 
commercial).
At UNO Film department, we have a custom made inventory tracking 
software for Movie equipment that students can check inand out daily. It 
all works with barcodes. Naturally this would work with any equipment 
"bolted down" as well.

If you are interested, I believe the person who created the software for 
us can fairly easily customize it for whatever needs.
