I would go with Linux Mint for a desktop (http://www.linuxmint.com/), it's
my flavor of choice for desktops.  CentOS is just the community supported
version of RHEL, which is really geared for server environments.  I think
Mint has a really well developed desktop environment it is _very_ user
friendly.
