I'll start by cautioning readers that Ubuntu is not a supported
environment for MarkLogic Server at this time. As always, any advice
given around unsupported environments is unofficial.
Anyway, this sounds like a known bug in the upstream debian
implementation of the Linux Standard Base function library. The
/etc/init.d/MarkLogic script changes directories so that it can find
the shared libraries it needs, and then the lsb functions change right
back to root. Debian has fixed this problem in lsb-base_3.2-22.
Debian-based distributions should pick up the change over time.
If you're feeling brave, you can download a deb of lsb-base_3.2-22 at
http://packages.debian.org/sid/all/lsb-base/download/

Greetings,
I am installing the MarkLogic 64 bit 4.0-4 rpm on Ubuntu Desktop 8.10
(64 bit).
I user Alien to transform the .rpm into a .deb then installed the .deb
without errors.
When I try and run MarkLogic I get this error
mwhit...@reddwarf:~/Desktop$ sudo /etc/init.d/MarkLogic startStarting
MarkLogic: /opt/MarkLogic/bin/MarkLogic: error while loading shared
libraries: libbteuclid.so.6.0.1: cannot open shared object file: No such
file or directory
The perms on the .so look ok.
mwhit...@reddwarf:~/Desktop$ ls -l
/opt/MarkLogic/Basis/lib/libbteuclid.so.6.0.1-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root
1706955 2008-06-23 17:45 /opt/MarkLogic/Basis/lib/libbteuclid.so.6.0.1
Any idea why it can't find it. Add it to some linker path maybe?
Thanks,
Mike
