Hmm. I remain somewhat confused. Can you send me
~/Library/Application Support/MarkLogic/Data/databases.xml ?

It is the case that packaging can catch errors in databases.xml that might
otherwise go unnoticed. That doesn't answer the question of how they got
there, though. If that is indeed the case.
