This is a database setting which says whether last-update-time is stored
If not (and if several other advanced features are off) then properties
documents wont be created automatically

Subject: [MarkLogic Dev General] document properties

Hi,

I had the impression that the properties document of any document in the
database was managed by MarkLogic. I was hoping in particular that the
modification date would be available by default and updated automatically.

However, I find that none of the documents inserted using classic
xdmp:document-insert have a properties document, i.e. xdmp:document-properties
returns an empty sequence, and in the query console the properties column shows
(no properties).

Also modifying a document doesn't automagically create it. Is there an option
that needs to be switched on to get properties?

cheers,
Jakob.
