Yes I cannot imagine how if the last-modified property value is missing turning
on the feature will reach back in time and add them. You will have to touch
the documents to add it.

Thanks Geert,

that answers one of my questions (default of last-modified). I would think that
switching on the feature will not automatically add the properties (especially
the last-modified) as there is no means to know when a document was modified.

cheers,
Jakob.

Hi Jacob,

As others suggest below, it is the maintain last modified setting of the
Database as found in the Admin interface. There is also a maintain directory
last modified setting. The first is enabled by default, as is automatic
directory creation. But that creates quite some extra database fragments, so I
guess it was disabled at your end to save some space..

Not quite sure that enabling will automatically trigger creation of these
properties. You might need to 'touch' or all documents, or redo loading..

Kind regards,
Geert

Hi,

I had the impression that the properties document of any document in the
database was managed by MarkLogic. I was hoping in particular that the
modification date would be available by default and updated automatically.

However, I find that none of the documents inserted using classic
xdmp:document-insert have a properties document, i.e. xdmp:document-properties
returns an empty sequence, and in the query console the properties column shows
(no properties).

Also modifying a document doesn't automagically create it. Is there an option
that needs to be switched on to get properties?

cheers,
Jakob.
