Hi Mark, Easiest is to go through the ODBC/SQL interface, you can find more information at http://docs.marklogic.com/guide/sql where you can find examples of how to connect IBM Cognos and Tableau but the principles is the same for all BI tools that are capable of using ODBC.
Some of the tools like Pentaho, http://wiki.pentaho.com/display/EAI/Rest+Client, also have a REST client and can integrate with MarkLogic through the REST interface.
