Your installation seems to be damaged but hard to see how that would
have happened.

>From a clean start of JHS, do you see the viewmat display when you do
the following:

clean JHS start
 viewmat i.5 5

If it isn't too much trouble you might want to do a clean install.

1. download and install the package from the web site
2. start JHS, run JAL, update
3. restart JHS
4. plot 10?10

I called J with the red icon (jhs701).
Then
 clean start of JHS
clean (start of JHS)
 plot 10?10
|value error: plot
| plot 10?10

Your reference to 'scratch' sounds like you are running JHS. I think
Bill's remarks assume you are running JGTK.

In JHS plot is always loaded so you don't need to load it. But
normally in JHS the load'plot' has no effect, so something isn't quite
right.

Please confirm you environment. If it is MacOSX running JHS then you
should be able to do a plot directly in the jijx window without
loading anything. Try:

clean start of JHS
 plot 10?10

If you are running JHS then you should use JHS jal link to do updates.

I guess you can first update and install addons, eg

load'pacman'
'update'jpkg''
'upgrade'jpkg'all'

restart J, and make sure all have been upgraded with

load'pacman'
'upgrade'jpkg'all'

try some simple plot

load'plot'
plot 10?10

I have implemented some applications in J on my iPad and I want to use
them now on my MacBook. Unfortunately I do not get along properly with
version 7. The handbooks which I know like the Primer do not cover the
handling of this version. For instance I am not even able to load plot

|(file name error: script
| 0!:0 y[4!:55<'y')

or mathematical function form the addons. What does "scratch" mean?

Is there a simple but comprehensive introduction for version 7 on the
Mac possibly enriched with sample code?.
