I still get the same error. I suspect my old Mac OS is the problem because
the brew instruction warns that xCode is out of date, but I cannot upgrade
it to the desired version, either.

I also tried to remove wget as I show below, but got the same error message.

server:~ brian$ cd  /usr/local/bin
server:bin brian$ ls -l wget
lrwxr-xr-x  1 brian  admin  32 Feb  6 17:39 wget ->
../Cellar/wget/1.20.3_2/bin/wget
server:bin brian$ mv wget wgetbak
server:bin brian$

Thanks for your help, but I'm stuck.
