I think the way to do that is to reply to the digest -- verify that
the To: address is the right forum (change it if it's not ) -- and
then, when replying, take the entire digest, bring it into an external
text editor, trim off the parts which are irrelevant to your reply,
and work from there.

In other words, my understanding is that there's two likely issues
here, which could prevent you from sending the response.

(1) If you use [email protected], that would not work. But, if
you used [email protected], that could work (assuming you replaced XXX
appropriately).

(2) If you include an entire digest in your response, I think that
google spam prevention would bounce the message.

That said, if you wanted, I imagine you could unsubscribe from the
digest and resubscribe to the base mailing list. (I have not tried
this, so I don't know if there would be significant timing issues.)
