And foundational alpine mountaineering: a route that leads to the top may be beyond your abilities —and you may only discover that at a point where you cannot retreat. This is why it is always good to have your own map and never follow the people in front. They may know where they are going, but that doesn't imply its the route you should do. w.r.t metrics, they could be used to detect problems —but systems can look healthy metric wise, yet still be utterly broken. The standard way to test this is run a test workload through the system and verify the results are as expected.
