No scripts to combine steps allowed. The current system doesn't use one and
adding more scripts simply complicates everything.

I don't care about reducing mail. I get 400-800 messages a day. They are all
nicely filtered into the appropriate spots. A few more commit messages can't
hurt me. Even donaldp's recent commits didn't phase me. I can see people not
wanting to get hundreds of megs of generated content in their inbox. So I am
+1 to adding Peter's changes to log_accum.pl with my previously stated
modifications to it.

As for CVS, the server should be able to handle it and commits really aren't
the bogging factor. The bogging factor is checkouts.

I'm stupid. I still don't see how that problem is solved with your proposal.

Not really. As I said, the current system works fine for me, I like it, and
I haven't heard a real complaint about it for quite some time (except from
you). So, either everyone hates it or everyone loves it or as is most
typical around here, they don't care enough to fix it.
