Danny, I have no problem with the idea of consolidating as many JavaMail service providers under James as are willing to come. The code needs to be ASF, and they have to understand that it is part of the Community, just as are matchers and mailets.
So far I know of: replacement SMTP provider - http://www.gnu.org/software/classpathx/ replacement IMAP provider - http://www.gnu.org/software/classpathx/ replacement POP3 providers http://www2s.biglobe.ne.jp/~dat/java/project/poppers/index_en.html http://www.gnu.org/software/classpathx/ mbox provider - http://www.gnu.org/software/classpathx/ NNTP provider - http://www.gnu.org/software/classpathx/ maildir provider - http://javamaildir.sourceforge.net/ mh provider - http://trustice.com/java/icemh/ DAV webmail provider - http://jdavmail.sourceforge.net/ Outlook Express provider - http://oe5dbx.caffeinejolt.com/ plus the ones that we'll develop. Of the classpath code, three of them come from Chris, two from Nic. Plus Nic reimplemented the rest of JavaMail and JAF. We may not use the latter, but we could provide it a working home, and we all have been reminded that there are still issues with the BCL. I am not including web mail or mail clients at the moment. Not in this project. But James does USE JavaMail. Our new JavaMail-based FetchMail service would benefit, and we'd have additional flexibility with respect to storage formats that our users can select. In other words, these are all components that could be used directly BY James, as opposed to things that would use James (clients and web mail), but these others are more core to our needs. --- Noel -----Original Message----- From: Danny Angus [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, February 06, 2003 17:52 To: James-General Mailing List Subject: RE: [Proposal] New Subproject I accept the principle but could you thrash this out a bit, how many, what are they, why are they relevant to James, we also need to set a bar regarding community, like the Jakarta requirements. d. > -----Original Message----- > From: Noel J.
