Thanks, Danny - To carry the "JimCat" analogy a bit further, such a container should include the ability to hold a "MAR" file (Mail Application Archive) which could be identical in structure and implementation as a WAR (Web application archive) file. JimCat would have a MailApps directory (in addition to WebApps) into which you could deploy such a MAR file. MAR files, like WAR files would come with deployment descriptors (e.g. MAIL-INF/mail.xml), locations for supporting libraries (e.g. MAIL-INF/lib) and, of course, mailets.

A little, first let me assure you that James is still 100% active and is not in any way end-of-line. James developers have been working on an approach to make James core container agnostic, and to allow for the distribution of container specific versions. There is no time line, but the James team are confident that we have the ability to provide the same level of support to our users that we have always done, if the issues are container issues we have a number of options which give us the ability to address these. > Related, is it possible to deploy the James engine in a container other > than Phoenix/Avalon? E.g. TomCat? There are other Avalon based containers, I think Merlin is one that James may work in. Tomcat is a web application container, hence entirely unsuitable for running James. However it might be an idea for a wet-weekend to see if we could hack out "JimCat" a tomcat/james hybrid... d. ************************************************************************ *** The information in this e-mail is confidential and for use by the addressee(s) only.
