though what really worked was the dancing/buddha thing, and no i'm not kidding! i just tried to boot it today, and it just works!? like nothing ever happened yesterday! i guess this proves its a hardware thing, so i took a backup immediately (not sure if its any good though)!
moral of the story: always have a backup and get ready for ritual sacrifices, hehehe
