Make it optional to download the internal versions or use an external? The only two reasons I say that are: I don't really like having multiple copies of the same thing "just because." Disk space may be cheap, but it's even cheaper not to have to buy a new disk (no, I'm not that close, but it's the principle of the thing). Besides, J is a pretty small package, the last time I looked. It'd be nice to avoid it getting bloated. When there are multiple versions of the same software on my system, it's easy for them to get out of synch, and then it's a bit confusing to remember which one has which foibles. That said, I did have a bit of problem getting going myself, and Chris helped me out. Given that Chris can't help everyone (and everyone won't have the time to wait), I see the attraction of bundling it. That's why I like the idea of making it optional.
