David, Devon, John
Many thanks for swift and helpful responses.
The J code displays as black with IE 7.0 and Firefox 2.0.0.2 on winXP,
However, with an older version of Firefox, 1.5.0.10 on Linux, I see the J
code in blue.
From your responses, it does look pretty definite that the newer and the
older browsers behave
differently. It had not occurred to me that that the newer versions of the
browsers might need to be
configured suitably to allow the colors to be seen. I will investigate this.
Thanks again
Roger

The HTML is set up to display the J code
in the examples in blue, for a better appearance.
This is demonstrated at

Roger:
I see the expected result in several browsers on both Windows XP and
Linux.
Are your system settings off? For example, in Firefox you can decide to
let pages use their own colors or set a default.
Best wishes,
John
