The J installer is really just a self-extracting ZIP archive.    If you 
download and install winzip, you can right click the file
setup_j.exe  and extract it to the folder of your choice.  Then simply 
double-click on j.exe.  

As with any other application, you can right-click on j.exe, drag it to your 
start menu, then select "create shortcut here", to
create a program icon.   

I don't know enough about vista or 64 bit Oses to help further, except to note 
that both the 32- and 64-bit flavors of J should
operate in your environment.  So if one won't work, try the other.

BTW you needn't post to multiple forums.  Most members subscribe to all forums, 
so posting to just one will suffice.  The general
forum is designated (loosely) for installation issues (among other things).  If 
you don't get a response, usually it's because no
one knows how to answer you (or, less frequently, we do, but the required 
answer is prohibitively long and involved).
