This is a little different than what I understood you to be saying in your
first beep message. I don't know why there would be beeps in the simple
examples you give. Please provide code for the most trivial example that
causes a beep. The beeps are perhaps system event beeps that are not
explicitly emitted by J. I am not familiar with this area. I wonder if there
is an ME control panel configuration that perhaps emits a sound when certain
events happen. For example, a message box with iconexclamation is displayed.
If this is the case then you can turn off the beeps by resettting the
control panel configuration.

Subject: Re: [Jgeneral] switching beeps off
I am developing application comparing different ascii files.
Whenever a file is selected under wdhandler, or an Info window opens a
beep alerts, I'd like to switch that off.

Can beeps occurring at errors or closing a J Session be switched of
within J?
I switched off any sound in the sound control of windows, but J did not
sound different.
I am running J504 at Windows ME.
Thanks for any help, Markus
