You got the GNU version not Sun java.
For sun java. it should be like
java version "1.6.0_03"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_03-b05)
I guess the key phrase is "Java(TM)" trademarked by Sun.
You do not need to download the SDK, just the java runtime environment should be
OK for J to work.

sun version + gnu version so that you'll have 2 versions of java in your
computer. It is important to configure sun java as your default java engine. The
guide should provide detail steps to do so.
Does fedora get graphical package manager similar to that of debian/Ubuntu?
That graphical tool makes installing sun java much easier.
