I think I will change the approach so that the data will be stored in several mapped files < 2GB, and the complete array will be rebuild in J memory. There should be no limits.

I can't test in 64bit but I did notice that some applications balk at accessing files larger than 2GB. Take MS-Office 2003 for example. It will not be able to open PST files (your mailbox) when it's over 2GB. Microsoft actually provided a downloadable tool which will reduce the size of your mailbox to <2GB.

In retrospect, some applications like MS-SQL Server can access files greater than 2GB on my 32bit machine (Lenovo T61).

Is there a size limit of mapped files? On XP64 and J64-602 the file
mapping does not succeed over 2 GB files. There is 6 GB physical ram.
