Eric,
In the course of messing with the iPod terminal, I finally discovered
that my frustrations with being unable to move from j504 to j601 in
my old Linux box had been neatly solved by the cleanup and
repackaging of j602. It drops into my system and works like a charm!

This problem/issue was manifested back when I tried to get j601 going by error:
/lib/i686/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.3.4' not found
and you resolved the issue by making a special jconsole (leaving out
dependencies) for me - and that worked. But I'm really happy that the
issue went away completely (and quietly, glad I finally noticed!) in
j602.
Of course, now I have a good deal of cleanup and modernizing work to
do, but it will be a very good thing to have current releases in all
environments.
